First and foremost, TEMPERED is not dead, and for that matter, as long as there are still people out there with the percipience and desire to support an Australian owned and operated brand, it will never die. All it takes for sustenance is a simple belief, and I know that this exists, even if only in minorities.

Obviously, economic climates are tough, this is not an excuse, it is just reality. Also, somehow there is still a ‘market’ which consists of dumbass kids buying from overseas. Whilst this is still happening, localised industries will continue to struggle. You have to be at the forefront of the game if prosperity continues to occur, something which I think Clint & Cooper have been able to achieve exceptionally well. Look at what Colony have going on, worldwide (supportive and loyal) team, frequent road trips, almost a monopoly on the Australian BMX media front as well as a massive support base no matter where you may be across this country. In saying that, those aspects are not vital to the success of a brand, however they do go a long way in that respect.

Unfortunately, for the most part of the last 2 years, the TEMPERED team has gradually minimised to its current structure (Australia) which includes, Mat Lawton, Jerry Vandervalk, Alex Liiv, Benn Pigot and myself. So the team is already quite small (and not big fans of self-promotion or social media whoreing) as well as this, Jerry and myself have focussed every single moment of our filming motivations towards the 2020 DVD (due for release September/October 2013). This has reduced the media front for TEMPERED to a few seldom web updates. Unfortunately, the focus placed on this aspect of a brand’s performance is so large that there seems to be a belief that the brand has died.

It has been the case that Matty (owner/team manager/marketing/business support/relations/everything) has found himself over on the West Coast for the last few years, making it hard to effectively collaborate on the development of the brand. And with that many responsibilities, plus working a full time job, it is no wonder that things have slowed. But as always, ideas are continually being thrown around and future progressions are in place to build this dope as fuck brand. Team expansion, products, trips and web edits will continue to happen, all in good time. In the meantime, just remember that whilst people are riding the parts, reppin’ the stickers, influencing positive dialogue and most importantly, never losing belief, TEMPERED will always be an integral part of the scene.
