Now, given that social networking does provide a format to elevate demonstrations and protest groups, to communicate with people of power, to fight social injustice, to maintain friendships and to generally seek advice, it is doing so in a manner characterised as ‘textspeak’. You all know what I’m talking about here, ‘textspeak’ is the basis of a lot of our comical influences here at Crispy. For instance;

Whilst this example, does not include such quintessential elements as ‘lol’ and ‘brb’, it shows the mundane, illiterate and simplified manner in which contemporary communication is characterised by. As The Daily Beast states, ‘In the English-speaking world, Britain alone generates well over 6 billion messages every month. People are communicating more and faster than ever, but some worry that, as textese drops consonants, vowels and punctuation and makes no distinction between letters and numbers, people will no longer know how we’re really supposed to communicate.’ I would like to clear up that, whilst Crispy does engage within some of these practices, it is out of whimsical irony that we do so.

To clarify my points further, I would like to quote Janet Porter of Mail Online.

- ‘From Kylie Minogue to John Prescott, Sally Bercow to Stephen Fry, tweeting attracts people who think the world sits expectantly waiting to know what they think about everything from a traffic jam to what they’re eating for lunch. But do we? Isn’t all this communication often just a front for a lack of self-esteem? Tweeting makes the most ordinary person feel wanted by making them believe they are in a special club — even if it’s a group no one needs any special intelligence, style, or credentials to join.’

- ‘The whole thing is an exercise in egotism, and one which has allowed a string of silly people to gain almost prophet-like status on Twitter. From Peaches Geldof to Peter Andre and Sally Bercow, celebrity culture has thrown up these babblers who regale us with every mundane detail of their lives.’

Case in point;

- ‘Sherry Turkle says that children need to be taught the value of being alone occasionally. In our modern age, we fear loneliness more than anything else — and we seem to be terrified of silence. She says: ‘We are too busy communicating to think, to create and truly connect.’ Technology, she says, seems to be ruling us, rather than the other way around. And the longer Twitter holds sway over millions of us, the worse it will get.’

So to summarise, I believe that whilst the Twitter revolution may not be the ultimate DEL, it is certainly the manifesting force which has helped shape the next generation of how we will communicate. People no longer appreciate the great writers and the power of words. Of course, I am shedding little light on the world of academia which continues to increase in popularity in modern society. However, why should quality literature & language be reserved for the world of academia? Ultimately, this piece points to the obvious, modern language is changing due to the forces of social media. This will continue to take place well into the future, changing how people behave, communicate, report and interact. I just wish people would take more care in their methods and quality of communication.

Let’s start with the past, you used to have somewhat of a completely different style of riding which some rude individuals may call ‘supermega’. What helped curve your style into the white g shredder you are today? What do you say to the haters?

Shit let the hater’s hate its all good, I feel I kinda kept my old style but just mixed it up a little by riding different shit.

What is your opinion on the contest style dudes of today’s BMX scene?

Theirs a bunch of ill dudes in that scene that just like to get buck have good times and make a lil cash, I just dont like the small part of the scene that get warped by the fame and start runnin’ on some celebrity trip.

You used to, or still do, work at Monster doing training camps with Buckworth, Elkins, etc etc, got any stories to share about those days?

That was pretty dope while it lasted, I shaded out of their a few months back that place aint what it used to be. Wack as managment and a fucked up outlook on BMX. Straight cash source really.
