So yesterday afternoon we finally rolled into canberra. Staying at the YHA has a couple of advantages (being close to everything) but shared bathrooms and tvless rooms are abit of a downer, not to mention how low on cash i am. Regardless everyone is super keen to hit the street here and after riding around for about 15 minutes yesterday we found plenty of spots and have plans to get a few clips.
Todays plan is to hit up backbone then go to the new park in woden, which looks amazing.

Samsara and myself are ready… Adrian Duffy and Lawton are not. Today we are set for Canberra, maybe slipping in a little riding between driving and fucking around.

Yesterday, we rode around Newcastle after getting a few tip off’s as to where to ride. Ended up getting a few sweet photos and clips to make the day worthwhile.

I am unable to post any images or videos as the internet i’m working off is of a low standard.

Until faster net!

Flipping through Slam the other day and came across this review of the new album by ‘Them Crooked Vultures’;

‘I hate Dave Grohl so much it makes me want to cry. If i was going to single out the most annoying thing about him, I think it would have to be his goatee. I am certain that Kurt shot himself after having to listen to him babble on about something moronic like, “I wonder how they get the cherries into cherry coke?” for three hours. If you can’t imagine how good it would feel to run on stage, punch him in the face and frisbee his cymbals into the audience, then you need your pulse checked. I’m thinking that the equal opportunity laws have made it that if you are going to invent something as incredibly amazing as Them Crooked Vultures, you have to put something as horrific as Dave Grohl in your band to equal out the fact your bassist plays in Led Zeppelin and give other bands some sort of fighting chance. You are allowed to buy this album because its so bad arse, but for every purchase, you must set fire to one Foo Fighters album. It’s the only responsible thing to do.’

Pretty hilarious i thought.

Oh and this is sick.

Back to BMX! So after a week of no bike, not even internet related bike, I am keen as hell to get back into it. Plan’s are pretty solid for hitting Canberra from this Saturday for however long it takes for the road to shag us.Its going to be legendary!

On a side note, upon watching hours of videos on thecomeup, this baby rose above and reared its gnarly as fuck head.

Blazeguard – Aussie Invasion from John Thompson on Vimeo.

So amazing, I don’t really understand why any of these clips are being used for a web edit. Kym Grosser is dad of dad’s, reaching back and grabbing some Australian dignity, which was swiftly lost in a haze of Guettler, Cooper, Buckworth, Whyatt, Ahumada (no shots) tomfoolery.

Relieved doesn’t even begin to describe how i felt yesterday afternoon. I had survived not one, but two flights over a massive ocean without resulting death. Furthermore, I had stood valiant after conquering the coral coast of Fiji and its rabie (?) infused dogs, killer floods, native death drinks and deadly sea snakes.

I won’t blab too much further surrounding the events of my trip, however, i will post a few photos with a following descriptive caption.

Photobucket

This was rad, we hired out scooters for 80$ Fijian (currency exchange rate equated to 1.60 for every AUS dollar). Motored around the bottom half of the island reaching speeds of up to 90km/hr, yeah you heard me right. We even were allowed in to a local village whilst they celebrated a grandmother’s passing by shaking soda and baby powder onto each other.

Photobucket

Ahh two points to emerge out of this photo. One, this was also a great day due to the jet-boats we were about to board (in the background)which took us up the Sigatoka river and once again, into the caring hands of a local highlands village. Two, this day was made further exciting, because, my father (pictured holding the devil’s liquid, Kava) was made chief, due to his age, and forced to dance in front of the local villagers and 30 or so tourist’s.

Photobucket

This was probably the only letdown of the trip (for me anyway), we were promised many delightful activites on this fishing trip, however we basically trawled in the swell of the ocean and searing heat for 6 hours straight. This was made worse for me as i had amazing stomach pains from the previously mentioned devil’s liquid. Aaron (pictured) managed to overcome the downfall’s of the day to catch this badboy of a fish, which we ate later that night.

Photobucket

Lastly, whilst scouring the town of Sigatoka, i noticed this ‘bridge’ which was apparently ravaged beyond repair during the recent cyclone which must have devastated the island. Engineering nightmare.

Sweating it out here in the pacific! We have been so busy the last 3 or so days, most memorably, hired some scooters out and charged around the island’s stopping in on a few villages and meeting the locals.

They have this crazy ass native drink called ‘kava’ which is their own brand of alcohol ground out of roots. It looks and tastes like muddy dish water. My stomach didn’t agree with it after i was forced to drink whilst attending a tribal ceremony, how was i to say no!

Yesterday, we were escorted out to do some deep sea fishing and snorkelling, however the trip didn’t turn out as planned, ended up just bashing around trawling for 6 hours in the swell. It was still an experience.

Couple of chill days then were going on another tour into the mountains to bring us to the end of the trip, then home!

Lastly, remember how we found the spillway (couple of posts down), well i really wanted to bombdrop in off the wall. Appears skaters have already beaten me to it…
